Therapy session

Listening is often the only thing needed to help someone.

Hi, I’m Rachel, I am a integrative counsellor, with over 3 years of experience in helping clients. I offer sessions from my office in Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria as well as offering remote sessions online.

I am a BACP Registered Integrative Therapist and adhere to the BACP's Ethical Framework for Good Practice

The relationship between you and your counsellor is key to your therapy journey.  You need to feel that you are heard, understood and valued.  It is therefore important that you find the right counsellor for you, I always recommend booking a free telephone conversation to get an understanding of your counsellor.

I work as an integrative counsellor,  simplified means that I offer my clients an experience that is bespoke to what they bring to each session. My approach looks at the whole person considering psychological, emotional and physical needs. I am non-judgmental with the aim being to support individuals to set goals and develop behaviors to improve their satisfaction with life.

My area of interest is working with farmers and rural workers.  I currently offer a drop in centre at Crooklands Auction Mart once a month assisting the nurses on health check days.  Farmers have so much to contend with from the weather, political/media influences most of which is out of their control.  Breaking down stigmas that surround mental health especially with farmers is hugely important to me.

I am now offering single session therapy, SST is therapy which lasts for one session rather a than traditional block of sessions.  This is a great opportunity to explore therapy for the first time without committing.  It is also good for people who don't have the time/money.

About

What to expect

Therapy can be scary, the thought of opening old wounds can be terrifying or opening up to someone new can be daunting it is paramount to me that provide a safe, confidential and emphatic space, the pace of our sessions is set by you.

When you arrive, once you’ve made yourself comfortable, we will talk about what’s going to happen during the session and the importance of and limits to confidentiality.  I will answer any questions and attempt to address any concerns or anxieties you might have.

You will then have a chance to tell your story and what you want to get from counselling.  Some people find this pours out of them with ease whilst others find it harder to articulate.  There is no right or wrong way to do this and I will make it as easy as possible for you.

If you’re feeling anxious during the session I am skilled at helping you be at ease.  If you find that emotions well up or you become lost for words, that’s OK

The counselling journey that we embark on can help support you in bringing about the change you are seeking in your life.  It can empower you to move forward with renewed awareness and understanding of yourself, as well as techniques to help support you, as you continue on life's journey.
